How Is the Fliyp Score Calculated?
The Fliyp Score is calculated from six Vedic astrology signal dimensions — Career, Decision, Relationship, Emotional, Energy, and Spiritual — each computed separately against your personal birth chart, then weighted and combined into a single daily number from 0 to 100.
The weights are not static. They shift based on your current Vimshottari Dasha period, which means the score formula adapts to where you are in your personal life arc — not just today's planetary positions.
This article explains exactly what goes into each of the six calculations and why the methodology produces a more accurate reading than any sun-sign-based system.
The Foundation: Your Personal Vedic Birth Chart
Before any daily calculation begins, Fliyp needs three inputs: your birth date, birth time, and birth place. From these, the system computes:
Ascendant (Lagna): The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your exact moment of birth. The ascendant changes every ~2 hours, meaning it is unique to you in a way the sun sign (which changes monthly) is not. The ascendant determines which sign occupies each of the 12 houses in your chart — and therefore what every planetary transit means for you specifically.
Natal planet placements: Where each of the nine Vedic planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu) was positioned at the moment of your birth. These are the fixed reference points against which every daily transit is measured.
Vimshottari Dasha period: Which planetary period you are currently in. The Vimshottari system divides the 120-year human life cycle into 9 planetary periods of varying lengths (Sun: 6 years, Moon: 10 years, Mars: 7 years, Rahu: 18 years, Jupiter: 16 years, Saturn: 19 years, Mercury: 17 years, Ketu: 7 years, Venus: 20 years). The current Mahadasha planet's transits carry amplified weight in your daily score.
Birth nakshatra: The lunar mansion the Moon occupied at your birth. This determines your dasha starting point and carries specific resonance qualities that filter how the daily Moon nakshatra affects you.
The Six Signal Calculations
Signal 1: Career (0–100)
The career calculation centres on the 10th house — the domain of professional life, authority, and public reputation in Vedic astrology.
What is computed:
- Position and strength of your 10th house lord (the planet ruling the sign on your 10th cusp)
- Which planets are currently transiting your 10th house and their quality (benefic or malefic)
- The Sun's current position (natural karaka for authority and recognition)
- Saturn's position and aspect pattern relative to your 10th house (Saturn governs sustained professional structure)
- Your current Mahadasha planet's relationship to career-ruling houses
High score indicators: 10th lord in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th house) or trikona (1st, 5th, 9th house); Jupiter or Venus transiting the 10th; Sun in strength; dasha planet connected to 10th house indicators.
Low score indicators: 10th lord in 6th, 8th, or 12th house transit; Saturn or Rahu aspecting 10th house without benefic support; combust 10th lord; dasha planet enemy to career indicators.
Signal 2: Decision (0–100)
Decision quality in Vedic astrology is governed by Mercury (intellect, analysis, discrimination) and the Moon (mind, perception, reception).
What is computed:
- Mercury's current sign and house position relative to your natal Mercury and ascendant
- Whether Mercury is retrograde (weakens clarity and forward-planning), combust (within 14° of Sun — loses independence), or in an enemy sign (reduced efficiency)
- Today's Moon nakshatra — each of the 27 nakshatras carries a specific cognitive quality ranging from sharp analytical focus (Ashwini, Pushya) to diffuse or emotionally turbulent states (Ardra, Ashlesha)
- Moon's current phase — waxing Moon generally supports clearer forward-thinking; waning Moon is better for completion and reflection
- Aspects to natal Mercury from transiting planets
Why this matters: The decision signal is the most practically impactful of the six for high-stakes choices. Contracts, negotiations, investments, important conversations — all benefit from a high decision signal. When Mercury is retrograde and the Moon is in a turbulent nakshatra simultaneously, the decision signal drops significantly and Fliyp flags the conditions explicitly.
Signal 3: Relationship (0–100)
Relationships and partnerships are governed by the 7th house, Venus (connection, harmony, desire), and the Moon's emotional quality.
What is computed:
- Venus's current transit position relative to your 7th house and natal Venus
- Strength and position of your 7th house lord today
- Moon's emotional tone (feeds directly from the Emotional Signal calculation)
- Whether Mars is aspecting your 7th house (increases friction and impulsive conflict) or Jupiter (increases warmth and generosity)
- Your dasha planet's natural relationship to Venus and the 7th house
High score indicators: Venus in own sign (Taurus, Libra) or exalted (Pisces); Jupiter aspecting 7th house; Moon in a nurturing nakshatra (Rohini, Anuradha, Revati); dasha planet friendly to Venus.
Practical application: A high relationship signal makes important conversations land better — proposals, reconciliations, partnership negotiations, introductions. A low signal doesn't mean to avoid people; it means to account for a higher-than-normal probability of miscommunication.
Signal 4: Emotional (0–100)
This is the most rapidly changing signal because its primary driver — the Moon — moves through a new nakshatra approximately every 24 hours.
What is computed:
- Which of the 27 nakshatras the Moon occupies today and its inherent emotional quality
- The Moon's current house position in your natal chart
- Whether the Moon is in a friendly, neutral, or enemy sign relative to your natal Moon
- Any planet conjunct or in close aspect to the Moon today
- Moon's phase and directional strength
The 27 nakshatras and emotional quality (examples):
- Rohini: Creative, sensory, pleasure-seeking, slightly indulgent
- Ardra: Turbulent, intense, storm-like — raw emotional energy that needs direction
- Pushya: Nourishing, calm, auspicious — the Moon's favourite nakshatra
- Magha: Ancestral, proud, powerful — good for decisions about legacy and roots
- Chitra: Aesthetic, perfectionist, creative-critical
- Anuradha: Devoted, disciplined, warm — strong for relationships and group work
- Jyeshtha: Intense, protective, leadership-oriented — high drive but prone to stress
Fliyp uses all 27 to produce a daily emotional quality reading specific to your chart's relationship with each nakshatra.
Signal 5: Energy (0–100)
Physical vitality, drive, and initiative are governed by Mars (action, will, courage) and the Sun (life force, confidence).
What is computed:
- Mars's current sign and its dignity (strong in Aries/Scorpio, exalted in Capricorn, debilitated in Cancer)
- Mars's house position in your current transits
- Sun's transit strength and seasonal position
- Whether Saturn is aspecting Mars (dampens energy, creates frustration) or Jupiter (steadies and channels it)
- Your dasha planet's natural energy quality
A key insight: The energy signal is not about how you feel subjectively — it is about the objective quality of drive available in your planetary conditions today. A low energy signal day is often one where Fliyp users report feeling fine physically but notice that effort produces less result than usual. A high energy signal day is when sustained effort compounds quickly.
Signal 6: Spiritual (0–100)
The spiritual signal is the most misunderstood — and often the most predictive of breakthrough days.
What is computed:
- Jupiter's transit through your 9th house (dharma, fortune, higher wisdom) or 5th house (intelligence, grace, creativity) — the two houses most associated with spiritual attunement
- Ketu's current house position (Ketu, the south lunar node, is the planet of spiritual liberation and deep intuition in Vedic astrology)
- The Moon's nakshatra's sacred quality (nakshatras like Pushya, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati are associated with higher-mind receptivity)
- Your dasha planet's natural spiritual alignment
Why users are surprised: Many people expect the spiritual signal to be relevant only to meditation or religious practice. In practice, a high spiritual signal day is when the best creative breakthroughs happen, when the "right answer" to a complex problem surfaces without forcing, and when important realisations arrive. Fliyp users regularly report that their clearest insight days correlate with high spiritual signal readings.
The Weighting System
The six signals are not averaged equally. Fliyp applies dynamic weights based on your current Vimshottari Dasha:
| Mahadasha Planet | Amplified Signals | |-----------------|------------------| | Sun | Career, Energy | | Moon | Emotional, Relationship | | Mars | Energy, Career | | Mercury | Decision, Career | | Jupiter | Spiritual, Relationship | | Venus | Relationship, Emotional | | Saturn | Career, Energy (with friction lens) | | Rahu | Decision (heightened but distorted) | | Ketu | Spiritual, Emotional |
The result: your Fliyp Score adapts to your life's current chapter. A person in Jupiter Mahadasha gets a score weighted toward spiritual and relational conditions. A person in Saturn Mahadasha gets a score weighted toward structural and career conditions. The same planetary conditions on the same day produce different scores for people in different dasha periods — because those conditions genuinely affect them differently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How often is the Fliyp Score updated? Once per day, recalculated each morning. The Moon's nakshatra shift (~every 24 hours) and any planet changing signs or turning retrograde trigger significant score changes.
Q: Do all six signals need to be high for a good day? No. A total score of 68 might include a Career Signal of 85 and a Decision Signal of 82 — making it an excellent day for professional initiative — alongside a Relationship Signal of 42, suggesting to keep relationship conversations light. The dimension breakdown is often more useful than the total.
Q: Is there research or historical validation behind the signal methodology? Fliyp's methodology is built on classical Vedic astrology principles that have been in continuous use for over 2,000 years. The signal framework is our structured application of those principles to daily decision-making.
Q: What if I don't know my exact birth time? The closer to exact the better. Without a birth time, the ascendant cannot be calculated precisely. Fliyp can work with an estimated ascendant (using solar chart methodology as a fallback) but will note the reduced precision.
