What Is Location Intelligence?
Location Intelligence is Fliyp's city-scoring feature — a calculation that assesses how your Vedic birth chart interacts with specific cities around the world, producing a personalised score for each location across five life domains: Career, Relationships, Creativity, Wealth, and Overall Vitality.
The principle behind it: your birth chart was calculated for the exact coordinates of your birth location. When you live in a different city — particularly one far from your birthplace — the planetary angles relative to that new location shift. Certain planets become more prominent in certain life domains; the houses governing your key life areas may be activated differently. The same person, in a different city, is operating with a subtly different astrological configuration.
Location Intelligence quantifies this shift — turning astrocartography's complex planetary line maps into city-by-city scores that answer a simple question: would my chart work better there?
The Astrological Basis: Astrocartography and Relocated Charts
Location Intelligence builds on two established astrological relocation techniques:
Astrocartography
Astrocartography (developed in the 20th century by Jim Lewis, building on much older principles) maps the positions of planetary lines across the Earth's surface. For any birth moment, each of the nine Vedic planets was rising, setting, culminating (at the Midheaven), or at the Nadir somewhere on Earth. These four angles for each planet produce 36 planetary lines that run continuously around the globe.
The four angular lines for each planet:

When you live near a planetary line, that planet becomes more prominent in the corresponding life domain — for better or worse, depending on the planet's nature and dignity in your natal chart.
Relocated Birth Chart
A relocated birth chart is your natal chart recalculated as if you had been born at your current location at the same moment in time. Moving to a new city doesn't change your natal planet positions (they are fixed from birth), but it shifts the ascendant and house cusps — because the local horizon and meridian are now different. This changes which houses your natal planets occupy, potentially shifting key planets into different life domains.
A person born in Mumbai with natal Mars in the 8th house may find that Mars shifts to the 9th house in their London relocated chart — changing Mars's domain from hidden transformation to dharmic action, higher education, and travel. The planet itself has not moved; but its house position, and therefore its domain of influence, is different in London.
Location Intelligence integrates both techniques:

How Location Intelligence Scores Each City
For each city in Fliyp's database, Location Intelligence runs a multi-factor calculation:
Factor 1 — Angular Planetary Proximity
Which planetary lines run through or near this city? How close is the city to each line?
Beneficial line proximity:
- Venus Rising line near a city → relationships and social life flourish in that location
- Jupiter Midheaven line → career expansion and recognition are amplified
- Sun Rising line → identity and vitality are enhanced; natural leadership emerges
- Moon Nadir line → emotional comfort and domestic life are richly supported
Challenging line proximity:
- Saturn Rising line → personal identity faces pressure and restriction; heavy self-discipline required
- Mars Setting line → relationships may involve conflict and power struggles
- Rahu Midheaven line → career is dramatic, unconventional, and potentially unstable
- Ketu Nadir line → home life feels destabilising; a pull away from settled domestic existence
Line proximity weighting: The closer a city is to a planetary line, the stronger the effect. Within approximately 300km of a line (the "orb"), the planetary influence is strongly felt. Beyond 800km, the influence is minimal. Multiple converging lines in the same city compound their effects.
Factor 2 — Relocated Chart House Shifts
For each city, Fliyp calculates the relocated ascendant and the resulting house shifts for all natal planets.
Beneficial house shifts: A natal Jupiter moving from the 6th house (service and health) to the 5th house (creativity and teaching) in a city's relocated chart means creativity and teaching ability become more prominent there — a career-relevant improvement for creative professionals.
Challenging house shifts: A natal Saturn moving from the 11th house (networks and income) to the 12th house (isolation and loss) in a relocated chart means Saturn's pressure on income and social networks intensifies in that location — a financial and social warning signal.
Factor 3 — Current Dasha Interaction
Your current Mahadasha planet's relationship to a city's planetary lines is especially significant. If you are in a Jupiter Mahadasha and a city sits near your Jupiter Midheaven line, the city amplifies the planet that is already governing your life at the macro level — a compound amplification that makes that city exceptionally powerful for this phase of your life.
The Five Domain Scores
Location Intelligence produces a score for each city across five domains:
Career Score (0–100)
Driven by:
- Jupiter or Sun Midheaven line proximity (career recognition and expansion)
- 10th house quality in the relocated chart
- Mercury line proximity for communication and knowledge-work careers
A city with your Jupiter Midheaven line running directly through it will have a very high Career Score — Jupiter on the Midheaven brings expansion, recognition, and success in the public domain wherever you live.
Relationship Score (0–100)
Driven by:
- Venus Rising or Setting line proximity
- 7th house quality in the relocated chart
- Moon line proximity (emotional relational quality)
A city on your Venus Setting line tends to produce rich relationship experiences — partnerships form more easily, romantic connections are more frequent and harmonious, and social life is fuller.
Creativity Score (0–100)
Driven by:
- Venus Rising or Midheaven line proximity
- Mercury and Jupiter line proximity
- 5th house quality in the relocated chart
Cities where creative energy is amplified often fall near Venus Midheaven lines (beauty made public) or Mercury Rising lines (communication and intellectual expression brought forward).
Wealth Score (0–100)
Driven by:
- Jupiter Rising or Midheaven line proximity
- Venus line proximity (value and financial comfort)
- 2nd and 11th house quality in the relocated chart
Cities with your Jupiter Rising line tend to bring financial expansion and abundance — Jupiter's expansive quality is placed on the ascendant, amplifying prosperity in the local environment.
Overall Vitality Score (0–100)
The integrated assessment of all five domains, weighted by the intensity of planetary line proximity and the overall quality of the relocated chart. This is the headline score — the city's overall suitability for your chart at this phase of your life.
How to Use Location Intelligence
Evaluating a Relocation Decision
When considering a move to a new city — whether for career, relationship, or personal growth — Location Intelligence shows you how your chart performs there before you go. A city with high Career and Wealth Scores but a moderate Relationship Score tells you the move is professionally powerful but may not enhance your romantic or social life. Knowing this in advance allows you to make the move with realistic expectations and conscious strategies for the areas that need extra attention.
Comparing Multiple Candidate Cities
When you have a choice between cities — job offers in two different locations, or selecting where to relocate for personal reasons — Location Intelligence provides a direct side-by-side comparison. Not which city is objectively "better" — but which city works better for your specific chart.
Identifying Unexpected Locations
Location Intelligence scores cities you may never have considered. Many users discover that a city they had not thought about has exceptional scores for their chart — a location where the planetary lines happen to fall in exactly the right positions for their current life phase and priorities. Q: If I move to a high-scoring city, does it guarantee success in that domain? No — Location Intelligence shows the astrological field quality of a location for your chart. A high Career Score means the planetary environment amplifies career energy in that city; it does not guarantee a specific career outcome. Your effort, skills, choices, and real-world circumstances all interact with the astrological field. A high-scoring location makes the field more supportive; it does not replace the work.
Q: Can a challenging planetary line ever be positive? Yes — depending on your natal chart. A Saturn Rising line is generally challenging (restriction and pressure on identity) for most charts. But for a person with exalted Saturn as their ascendant lord in a strong position, a Saturn line may produce disciplined achievement rather than heavy restriction. Line interpretation always needs to account for the natal chart's specific Saturn quality.
Q: Does the effect of a planetary line wear off over time? Line effects are generally sustained as long as you live near the line. They are not temporary activations — they describe the ongoing environmental quality of that location for your chart. However, the way they express can shift as your dasha period changes: a Jupiter line might express as financial expansion during a Jupiter Mahadasha and as educational opportunity during a Mercury Mahadasha.
