Fliyp Is a Vedic Astrology Computation Engine
At its core, Fliyp is a software system that applies Vedic astrological principles to your birth chart, updated daily with current planetary positions, to produce actionable intelligence across multiple life domains. Every score, signal, and forecast is the output of a specific calculation — not content written to feel relevant, but mathematics applied to astronomical data.
This article explains the complete architecture: what data goes in, how it is computed, and how it connects to every feature you see.
The Input Layer: Your Birth Chart
Everything starts with three pieces of birth data:
Birth date: Determines Sun position, approximate Moon position (within a 2.3-day window), and all slow planet positions (Mars through Ketu move slowly enough that date alone is precise).
Birth time: Determines the exact ascendant (rising sign — changes every ~2 hours), all 12 house positions, and the precise Moon nakshatra degree (critical for dasha calculation).
Birth place: Provides the geographic coordinates used to calculate the local horizon angle for the ascendant, and the time zone offset for birth time normalisation.
From these three inputs, Fliyp computes your complete Vedic birth chart using the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsha — the standard Vedic reference) and the Whole Sign house system:
- Ascendant sign and degree
- All 9 planet positions: sign, degree, nakshatra, nakshatra pada
- All 12 house sign assignments
- All planetary aspects (drishti) between planets and houses
- Retrograde status of each planet at birth
- Combustion status of each planet at birth
- Moon nakshatra and its degree for Vimshottari Dasha calculation
- Current Mahadasha and Antardasha based on Moon nakshatra starting point
This birth chart is computed once and stored. It is the permanent foundation — it does not change.
The Daily Update Layer: Current Planet Positions
Every day, Fliyp fetches today's planetary positions (computed from standard astronomical ephemeris data) and runs them against your stored birth chart:
Current planet positions: All 9 planets' current sign, degree, nakshatra, and speed (direct or retrograde).
Current dignity assessments: For each planet, its current sign position is evaluated against the dignity hierarchy: exaltation > own sign > neutral > enemy sign > debilitation.
Current retrograde and combustion flags: Which planets are currently retrograde or within combustion proximity of the Sun.
Current house positions in your chart: Each transiting planet's current sign maps to a specific house in your chart (determined by your ascendant). The same Mercury in Virgo sits in different houses for each ascendant — Fliyp maps it to your chart specifically.
Current aspects: Which transiting planets are forming significant aspects to your natal planet positions today.
Current Antardasha: Based on your birth Moon nakshatra and birth date, your exact current Mahadasha and Antardasha are calculated — down to the day.
This daily computation produces a personalised planetary field map: nine planets, their current dignity, their position in your specific chart, their aspect relationships to your natal planets, and your current dasha context.
How Each Signal Is Computed From These Inputs
Fliyp Score (0–100)
The Fliyp Score is a weighted composite of six domain signals:
| Signal | Weight | Primary Planets Used | |--------|--------|---------------------| | Career Signal | 20% | 10th house lord, Saturn, Sun | | Decision Signal | 20% | Mercury, Moon nakshatra | | Energy Signal | 15% | Mars, Sun | | Emotional Signal | 15% | Moon sign and nakshatra | | Relationship Signal | 15% | Venus, 7th house lord | | Spiritual Signal | 15% | Jupiter, Ketu, 9th house |
Each component signal is calculated independently (described below), then combined with these weights. The resulting 0–100 score reflects the integrated quality of all six domains simultaneously.
Dasha adjustment: When the current Mahadasha or Antardasha lord is the same planet that drives a specific signal, that signal's weight is increased — the dasha lord's signal is more consequential in the current period.
Career Signal
Planets assessed: The 10th house lord (your career house ruler — determined by your ascendant), Saturn (discipline and career karma), and the Sun (authority and professional identity).
Calculation:
- Identify your 10th house lord (e.g., for Aries ascendant, the 10th house is Capricorn, so Saturn is the 10th lord)
- Assess the 10th lord's current sign dignity: exaltation/own sign = strong, debilitation = weak
- Assess Saturn's current sign dignity and retrograde status
- Assess the Sun's current sign dignity
- Check whether any of these planets are currently aspecting or transiting your natal 10th house
- Apply dasha weight: if Saturn or Sun is your current Mahadasha lord, amplify
- Weight and combine into 0–100 Career Signal score
Decision Signal
Planets assessed: Mercury (analytical intelligence) and the Moon's current nakshatra (cognitive and intuitive quality).
Calculation:
- Assess Mercury's current sign dignity: Virgo (own + exaltation) = peak; Pisces (debilitation) = poor; retrograde = significant penalty
- Assess the Moon's current nakshatra cognitive quality (each of 27 nakshatras has a specific decision quality rating)
- Check Mercury's current house position in your chart
- Apply dasha weight: Mercury Mahadasha/Antardasha amplifies this signal
- Combine into 0–100 Decision Signal score
Energy Signal
Planets assessed: Mars (physical drive and ambition) and the Sun (vitality reserve).
Calculation:
- Assess Mars's current sign dignity: Capricorn (exaltation), Aries/Scorpio (own sign) = strong; Cancer (debilitation) = weak; retrograde = drive misdirected
- Assess Sun's current sign dignity: Aries (exaltation), Leo (own sign) = strong; Libra (debilitation) = weak
- Check Mars's current house position in your chart (6th house = obstacle resolution; 10th = career drive; 12th = energy loss)
- Apply dasha weight: Mars Mahadasha/Antardasha amplifies this signal
- Combine into 0–100 Energy Signal score
Emotional Signal
Planets assessed: The Moon (emotional intelligence and daily cognitive tone).
Calculation:
- Identify the Moon's current nakshatra (changes every ~2.3 days — the primary driver of daily emotional variation)
- Apply nakshatra emotional quality rating (each nakshatra has specific emotional characteristics — nurturing, intense, analytical, creative, etc.)
- Assess Moon's current sign dignity: Taurus (exaltation) = peak; Scorpio (debilitation) = most challenging
- Apply lunar phase modifier: bright fortnight (waxing, full) = amplified; dark fortnight (waning, new) = more introverted
- Check Moon's current house position in your chart
- Apply dasha weight: Moon Mahadasha/Antardasha amplifies this signal
- Combine into 0–100 Emotional Signal score
Relationship Signal
Planets assessed: Venus (love, values, pleasure), the 7th house lord (partnership structure), and the Moon (emotional relational quality).
Calculation:
- Assess Venus's current sign dignity: Pisces (exaltation), Taurus/Libra (own sign) = strong; Virgo (debilitation) = weak; combust = suppressed
- Identify your 7th house lord (determined by your ascendant) and assess its current dignity
- Check whether Venus or the 7th lord is currently aspecting your natal 7th house
- Apply Moon's current nakshatra relational quality modifier
- Apply dasha weight: Venus or Moon Mahadasha/Antardasha amplifies this signal
- Combine into 0–100 Relationship Signal score
Spiritual Signal
Planets assessed: Jupiter (wisdom and spiritual expansion), Ketu (detachment and inner realisation), and the 9th house (dharma house).
Calculation:
- Assess Jupiter's current sign dignity: Cancer (exaltation), Sagittarius/Pisces (own sign) = peak; Capricorn (debilitation) = suppressed
- Assess Ketu's current nakshatra (Ketu is always retrograde; its nakshatra determines spiritual quality)
- Check whether Jupiter or Ketu is currently transiting your natal 9th house or 12th house (spiritual houses)
- Apply Moon's current nakshatra spiritual quality modifier (Ashwini, Magha, Mula — Ketu-ruled nakshatras — receive a spiritual boost)
- Apply dasha weight: Jupiter or Ketu Mahadasha/Antardasha significantly amplifies this signal
- Combine into 0–100 Spiritual Signal score
How the Cosmic Signals Use the Same Architecture
Wealth Transit: Focuses on the 2nd, 8th, 11th house lords plus Jupiter and Venus — same dignity-assessment, house-mapping, dasha-weighting architecture.
Clarity Index: Focuses exclusively on Mercury — same Mercury dignity calculation as Decision Signal but weighted purely for commercial and analytical work applications.
Lifestyle Index: Focuses on the 6th house lord, Venus, and Moon — applies daily routine and health quality modifiers from the same planetary assessments.
Planetary Pulse: Runs all nine planets through the full dignity-retrograde-combustion-house assessment and produces a combined field quality score without domain focus.
How Life Timeline Uses the Architecture
Life Timeline does not use daily planetary positions — it uses the birth chart's fixed Moon nakshatra to calculate the complete Vimshottari Dasha sequence:
- Moon's nakshatra at birth → determines starting dasha planet and remaining fraction of that period
- Fixed dasha sequence (Sun → Moon → Mars → Rahu → Jupiter → Saturn → Mercury → Ketu → Venus → repeat) is applied from birth
- Each Mahadasha subdivides into nine Antadasha sub-periods in the same sequence
- Natal chart quality of each dasha lord (dignity, house position, aspects) determines the quality score for each period
- Current transit planet positions overlay the dasha periods to show within-period quality fluctuations
Why This Architecture Produces Genuine Personalisation
The same day's planetary positions produce different scores for different people because:
- Different ascendants → same planets in different houses → different life domain activations
- Different natal planet dignities → same transiting planet affects a strong natal configuration differently than a weak one
- Different dasha periods → same transit amplified for people whose dasha lord is the transiting planet
- Different natal aspect relationships → the same Saturn transit aspects different natal planets for different charts
This is why Fliyp's outputs are not content — they are calculations. Two people with the same sun sign, reading this on the same day, will see different Fliyp Scores, different signal values, and different Life Timeline phases — because their charts are different.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does Fliyp handle the ayanamsha (zodiac offset)? Fliyp uses the Lahiri ayanamsha — the standard adopted by the Indian government's Rashtriya Panchang and the most widely used Vedic reference. The current Lahiri ayanamsha is approximately 23°51'. This is subtracted from the tropical planet position to produce the sidereal position used in all Fliyp calculations.
Q: How accurate are the planetary position calculations? Fliyp uses astronomical ephemeris data — the same computational foundation used by NASA for planetary position calculations. The positions are accurate to within minutes of arc, which is more than sufficient for sign-level and nakshatra-level astrological calculation.
Q: Why don't the signals always match how I feel? The signals reflect the planetary field conditions — not a guarantee of experience. Field conditions shape the probability distribution of experiences; they do not determine specific events. A low Decision Signal day means the analytical conditions are less reliable — it does not mean every decision made that day will be wrong. Your circumstances, awareness, and choices always interact with the planetary field.
Q: Can the system account for whether I have developed the higher expression of my placements? Not fully — this is a genuine limitation of algorithmic astrological assessment. The dignity calculations assess the raw planetary quality, not the level of conscious development of the person. A mature, self-aware person with Mercury in Pisces (technically debilitated) may make better decisions than an unconscious person with Mercury in Virgo (exaltation). Fliyp's signals are field quality indicators, calibrated to the planetary configuration — how much of that quality a specific person actualises depends on their development.
