The Difference Between Looking Up and Reading
There are two fundamentally different ways an astrology app can answer your question.
Looking up: You ask about a career decision. The app identifies your sun sign. It retrieves a pre-written response for "Scorpio career advice this month." It returns that response.
This is a lookup. It has nothing to do with your specific situation. It is the same text that every Scorpio gets.
Reading: You ask about a career decision. The system computes your ascendant (Aquarius), identifies that your 10th house is in Scorpio with Mars as the 10th lord, checks Mars's current transit position (Capricorn — exalted), notes that you are in Jupiter Mahadasha with Jupiter in your 10th house this month, verifies your Career Signal is 81 today, confirms Mercury is direct. It synthesises all of this into a response about your specific career conditions — not Scorpio's, not Aquarius's, but yours.
This is what Ask Advisor does.
The Five Data Layers Ask Advisor Works From
Layer 1: Your Vedic Birth Chart
Your birth chart — computed from your birth date, time, and place — is the permanent foundation of every Ask Advisor response.
From your birth chart, Ask Advisor knows:
Your ascendant: The rising sign that determines which house every planet falls in. This is the single most important input for personalised astrology — and the one that generic sun-sign readings completely ignore.
Your natal planet placements: Where each of the nine Vedic planets was at your birth. These are the fixed reference points against which all transits are measured. A Jupiter transit through Taurus means something completely different for a person with natal Jupiter in Taurus (Jupiter returns home) versus a person with natal Saturn in Taurus (Jupiter activates a Saturn-dominated sector).
Your house rulerships: Which planet rules each of your 12 houses. For a Libra ascendant, Venus rules the 1st house. For a Scorpio ascendant, Mars rules the 1st house. The same planet in the same transiting sign produces different personal relevance depending on what it rules in your specific chart.
Your planetary strengths and weaknesses: Whether your natal planets are in strong signs (own sign, exaltation), neutral signs, or weak signs (debilitation). These natal dignities determine the baseline strength of each planet's domain in your life — before any transit is applied.
Layer 2: Your Current Vimshottari Dasha Period
The Vimshottari Dasha system divides your life into a sequence of planetary periods governed by each of the nine Vedic planets. Your current Mahadasha (major period) and Antardasha (sub-period) determine which planet's transits carry the most weight right now.
This is the layer that most profoundly separates Ask Advisor from any sun-sign-based system.
Two people with identical birth charts but born in different years will be in different Mahadasha periods — and the same transit will affect them completely differently.
Example: Jupiter transiting Gemini in 2026.
- Person A is in Jupiter Mahadasha: Jupiter's transit is the most personally significant event of their year. Every house Jupiter touches is deeply relevant.
- Person B is in Saturn Mahadasha: Jupiter's transit still matters, but Saturn's position carries more personal weight. Jupiter's influence is present but not the dominant chapter.
Ask Advisor incorporates your current Mahadasha and Antardasha into every response — because the same question asked by two people in different dasha periods genuinely warrants different answers.
Layer 3: Current Planetary Transits
The nine Vedic planets are in constant motion. Their current positions — updated in real time — are overlaid on your birth chart to identify which houses are currently activated, which natal planets are receiving transits, and which transit combinations are creating the conditions you are experiencing.
Key transit factors Ask Advisor checks for every question:
Jupiter's house position: Which life domain is expanding right now?
Saturn's house position: Which life domain is being tested and structured?
Mars's sign and dignity: What is the current quality of drive and initiative?
Mercury's status: Is Mercury direct (clear) or retrograde (revisionary)? Which house is it activating?
The Moon's daily nakshatra: What is the emotional and mental quality of today specifically?
Rahu-Ketu axis: Which houses are the nodes currently activating, and what does this mean for your chart's growth edge?
Layer 4: Your Six Signal Scores
Ask Advisor has access to your current Fliyp Signal scores — Career, Decision, Relationship, Emotional, Energy, and Spiritual — as well as their recent trend over the past weeks.
This means when you ask "why has my career felt blocked lately?", Ask Advisor can see that your Career Signal has been 35–45 for the past three weeks (rather than assuming you are describing a feeling rather than a pattern), identify the transit responsible, and tell you both the cause and the expected duration.
The signal history provides a quantitative record that Ask Advisor can interpret — turning subjective experience ("I've been feeling stuck") into something verifiable against the planetary record.
Layer 5: Your Conversation Context
Ask Advisor maintains context within your conversation history. If you told Ask Advisor two weeks ago that you were considering a job change, and you return today asking "what's the timing looking like now?", it connects these as part of the same ongoing question — and its response builds on the full context rather than starting from scratch.
How Ask Advisor Synthesises These Layers
The synthesis process for a typical question works like this:
Your question: "I'm thinking of starting a business. Is now a good time?"
What Ask Advisor checks:
- Your ascendant → identifies 10th house sign and lord
- Current 10th lord position → is it strong or weak?
- Your Mahadasha period → entrepreneurship relevant or not?
- Jupiter's current house → is it activating your 10th, 1st, or 9th (fortune)?
- Saturn's position → is it creating structural demand in your career sector right now?
- Your Career Signal trend → has it been elevated (opportunity window) or depressed (building phase)?
- Mercury's status → is this a good time for communications, negotiations, and agreements?
- Your 2nd house (personal wealth) and 11th house (gains) conditions
The response synthesises all of these into: A specific assessment of whether you are in an expansion window (Jupiter activating career houses, dasha planet connected to 10th, strong Career Signal trend) or a preparation window (Saturn in 10th, dasha planet unrelated to career, low signal trend) — with specific guidance about what actions are appropriate for the current phase.
This is not a template. It is a reading.
What Ask Advisor Will Not Tell You
Ask Advisor is designed to be honest about its limits.
It will not make your decision for you. It tells you the quality of the planetary conditions. The decision — which job, which partner, which city — remains yours. Astrology illuminates the environment; you navigate it.
It will not predict specific events. "Will I get this specific job offer?" is not a question Ask Advisor answers with yes or no. It will tell you whether the current conditions are favourable for professional advancement and what the quality of the window is.
It works best with specific questions. Vague questions produce less specific answers. "Tell me about my life" produces a broad survey. "My career has been stagnant for a year and I'm wondering if it's a transit or something deeper in my chart" produces actionable, specific guidance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does Ask Advisor give the same answer every time I ask the same question? No. Responses incorporate today's transit conditions, your current signal scores, and any new context from your conversation history. The same question asked during Mercury retrograde versus Mercury direct will produce different guidance.
Q: How long does Ask Advisor take to respond? Typically seconds. The chart computation is pre-cached from your birth data, and the transit overlay is updated daily. Response generation is near-instant.
Q: What if I disagree with Ask Advisor's assessment? Engage with it. Ask "why do you say that?" or "I see it differently because..." Ask Advisor can explain its reasoning from the specific chart factors it used and engage with your alternative view. The conversation is designed to be a dialogue, not a pronouncement.
Q: Is Ask Advisor available in Hindi or other Indian languages? Currently in English. Indian language support is on the roadmap.
